Rodney performed in Des Moines some decades ago and a friend was at the show. Being the sort of person that he is he decided that he needed to meet Rodney. Being the sort that he is he just simply went backstage and kept walking, looking like he knew where he was going, till he ran into Rodney in a hall backstage. He ended up talking to him for about a half hour and said that he was very nice, very friendly, very humble and just generally too cool for words.
I've heard he was a really nice guy. I used to work in a record store and the manager was a struggling stand-up comedian. (I wonder what ever happened to him. Anyway...) He said he was at something somewhere some time (the memory is the first thing to go) and Rodey was there on the beach in a bathrobe and slippers, with a beer in one hand and a girl on each arm. He said he was a wild partier, but a great guy.
