Boheme

Due to various circumstances, I will not be at Boheme Bistro on sunday nights for awhile. I'm bummed, but life being what it is.

I did just call to get crossed off the list and the person answering the phone went NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo !!!

So that kinda feels good, in a doesn't feel all the good sort of way.

It was a music day ...

The afternoon was spent in the studio, and I went to Boheme tonight. My fingers are a little angry at me at the moment, but it was a good set.

A new song ...

I premiered one of the new songs tonight. It went very well. I had the lyric book up onstage and had to refer to it a lot less that I thought I would.

In Crosby Park - A nice, if kinda lazy version. I'm working very hard on not playing this song as hard as I have tended to in the past.

How Can I Miss You? - This summers WYSIWYG. The most requested song at the moment.

My weekend

It's been a weekend. Here is the quick rundown

I was involved in a Lakota ritual for the dead, complete with a steam lodge. It was one of the most extreme, wonderful, painful and exhilarating moments of my life. I didn't make it to the end. I had to bail out of the lodge (after about 2 hours) as I was about to pass out. But it was amazing, life affirming and mind opening experience. My friend Susan is doing well, as well as she can be under the circumstance. I'll try to write more about this in a day or so, once I process the information a little more.

I was in a Karoake contest, at the urging of the wife. I won 3rd place. Singing Elvis Costello in a place that is mostly a country bar. Go figger ...

Went swimming with the mutants today and got sunburned. Another oddly exhilarating moment

How Can I Miss You was a request. I probably would have done it anyway, but ...

Pete wanted me to play one more, but I went off anyway. I was a little out of it.

Standards was real good though. My friend Tera, who had not been out in awhile, liked it a lot. The plans for recording it ... well ... it's gonna be funny.

The rest was a pretty good workmanlike set. I was pleased, even if I spaced off the first verse of How Can I Miss You, Pete fed me the line through the monitor. That's bad.

I'm a little burned out lately

I need to work out what is wrong. Some nights I can barely play guitar. My voice is a wreck. I butcher songs I have done for years. I do however waltz through songs that I pull out of the hat.

Woman I Want - lazy and slow.

Things You Never Know - perfect ... weird seeing as how I hsven't done it in months if not more than a year

Ok, The Book Of Weird went a long ways today.

The story. I was out singing with Cryn one night, doing Midnight Oil songs, Bowie songs, Psychedelic Furs songs. After Ziggy Stardust a friend of Cryn's said "well, you certainly pulled that out of your book of weird". I decided that needed to be the name of the covers CD.

So, I played guitar a lot today, played mandolin this evening and then went and played tonight at Boheme. My voice is shot, and my fingers are screaming. I did a safety set tonight.

A nice night

It was a pretty simple straight forward set. I only had one song in mind and the rest was decided as I went along

I did say that I wasn't going to get all hyper ... that wasn't exactly so ...

In Crosby Park - I feel that I can play this song again ... I had problems with it for awhile, but mostly because I was playing everything, including this, too hard
Hey Dad !!! - Hadn't done it in awhile ... did a pretty good job on it
Trophy Wife - Since, when asked, folks said they wanted funny songs
How Can I Miss You? - got the right tempo finally. It's a whole lot easier to play when I do it at a reasonable tempo

I didn't make it to Boheme last night. I was crashing pretty hard about 9 when I usually leave and decided that if I went I wouldn't get to sleep till late, being wired from performing and all.

BUT ... if I can find a guitar to borrow, I might play at the open mike in Chapel Hill next weekend if we are back from WV in time. So there is one bit of brightness.

I need to play music.

I need to get my guitar worked on a bit. Needs a neck tweak, the nut needs some trimming. Maybe a fret job. Having some weird intonation problems.

I'm working on the new patter in WYSIWYG ... I went off a cheat sheet last week ... couldnt see it this week ... so the patter was a little odd. Golden Age was good, havent done it in a long time.

A good night. Now to sleep

Another hyper night

I was going to go and do some serious songs, but changed my mind as I saw the make up of the room.

A pretty talented singer-songwriter kid was there with what looked like a bunch of frat boys. I decided to go with the hyper funny stuff.

I finished How Can I Miss You and Pete chimed in telling me to do one more song. Stopped the applause dead (he does things like that to me, knows I can take it)

I spent the afternoon in the studio working on the ATOY CD. I have a good rough mix set up now. I need to do one more rip to the computer tomorrow, the bass was too loud on the version I did today, but I have the levels now. It's turning out nice. I need to make a page about it soon. Once I am certain on the songs I'll get that done.

So between Ritual on friday and today, it's been a good musical weekend, how about you folks ???
