Years ago, I was an X-Files fan (this was back when it was still good) and I had an X-Files dream one night in which I was the Victim Who Dies Horribly Before Mulder and Scully Get There.

I was being pursued by a vague and nonspecific horrific monster of some sort, or maybe a psycho killer with ESP, I'm not sure. As I fled, hid, and in general tried to protect myself, I was nonetheless filled with the despairing fatalistic certainty that none of it would do any good. I WOULD be found and killed/eaten/zombiefied, because I WAS THE VICTIM WHO DIES BEFORE THE HEROES ARRIVE. That was my role. There was no escaping it. I think I could actually see Scully arriving as the monster/killer caught up with me.

I also dreamed once that I was Scully, and therefore could not die.
