I've been staying out of this

At least in my own journal. But some things need comment

This was on the Sacramento county GOP website.

There is an article here

The important quote is from chairman of the Sacramento County Republican party, Craig MacGlashan. “Some people find it offensive, others do not. I cannot comment on how people interpret things.”

Can't see the content - work is filtering it. From the article, it sounds pretty bad. What were they thinking?

How in the wide world of sports is this not offensive?

I can, and I interpret that whoever did it is an evil fuckwad.

I almost said - "I have no words"

But what I really have is so many words that are swirling around in my head I have no coherent way of lining them up to make sense.

Call the secret service.

Someone is advocating violence against a seated US Senator.

Offensive? Who the fuck cares? Advocation of assault is a crime. The right answer isn't moral outrage, the right answer is a perp walk.

The local GOP leader quoted in the article is an idiot. The fact that he's a local GOP leader is the only thing that makes it more troublesome than this.

Of course, I'm used to that sort of thing by now.

I find that now, after doing a little reading, I am less amused than
I was scant minutes ago.

I've only heard of this technique as "dry drowning" because of the fact that an autopsied body doesnt really show drowning as a cause of death. Sigh. Why do you damned humans gotta be so negative?

It still baffles me that people still want to vote for the Republican ticket when they're pulling stuff like this.

I find the rampant obnoxiousness that some people think is appropriate in politics, this included, to be massively depressing.

Why do so many people in our country think it is appropriate to advocate assault on someone they disagree with? Even in jest?

Anyway, I'm going to cheer myself up by imagining Obama out surfing, on a totally different kind of "waterboard". It's a much more friendly (and attractive) image, though it has just as little to do with the politician's ability, skillsets, background, integrity, policy positions, or anything else that matters in a President as the original image.
