It's a shame his sardonic wit and fearless will to weave big stories around little, world-changing ideas is no more. I also found his writing immensely readable. He had a way with prose.
I bought a barf bag at Bubonicon years ago from Fred Saberhagen. It was made to look like a T-shirt by being upside-down, with three cardboard "sleeves" sticking out of each side, and written on the front "My Parents Went To Earth And All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt."
I think I have every book of his that is not a Berserker and have read most of them several times. I will certainly miss finding new ones every so often.
