The rest of the weekend

I haven't had a chance to write about the rest of the weekend. Let's see if I can remember

I slept late saturday and ended up hanging out in the con suite playing music for much of the afternoon. Mostly just playing guitar, but singing a song occasionally.

Sometime later [livejournal.com profile] exapno showed up and commandeered my room so she could get a shower (the water was off at her place and the landlord didn't tell her till the last minute). So I got to hang out with her for most of the rest of the day (not while she was taking a shower, be nice)

Then later in the afternoon [livejournal.com profile] bectod showed up, both of them even, with small person in tow and the five of us went to dinner in the over-priced but very yummy hotel restaurant.

Came back and found that [livejournal.com profile] filkertom had played for a bit, bummed that I missed that, but he and [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust, Art and I played music for much of the evening. I don't remember all of what I played, but it included much of the usual stuff as well as I Want To Kill Everybody, which [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust followed with Randy Newman's Political Science, which both Tom and I played along with (one of the highlights of the weekend). I did Marie Provost, in response to a cat song, and to almost utter silence ... weird, that one either gets lots of laughs, or lots of groans.

I ended my musical evening with a very nice version of Hides, which [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust joined in on the drum.

Later I went swimming with a bunch of extremely silly and raucous folk ... ended up crashing out around 2.

Hung out for a bit sunday afternoon, and headed down to [livejournal.com profile] polyfrog's house for the evening. I havent had a chance to spend any time with him for some time. Of course did the necessary Pita Inn run.

I left too early to get lunch there, but I'l be back ... I promise

It was a marvelous weekend, thank you to all involved, I hope that is happens again next year, I will definitely be there if it does.

geeze

I was just looking at my entry from last night ... and it makes it look like I kinda dismissed [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust ... quite to the contrary ... he was brilliant ...

I am burned out

that was lovely

I spent the first part of the evening watching [livejournal.com profile] filkertom and [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust play music ... I hadnt seen the latter play before. Tom was his usual amazing self, even if a little road burned (that seems to be a theme this evening).

I finally had to get into the act, and ended up playing a half dozen songs or so ... I kinda worried about intruding, but in the end it seemed to be an ok thing. Had a blast though ... but can I remember what I played ???

Hey Dad
Bang My Bald Spot (and even had a nice mirror to fix my hair during it, you had to be there)
WYSIWYG
Nice Guys
Marilyn Monroe (Dan Bern)

And something else ... dunno ... didnt matter ... watching those two was the best part of the evening ...

Congenial

I am here at Congenial, and didnt realize how wiped out I was till [livejournal.com profile] filkertom asked me if I was ok ... I'm stuttering a lot. It's been a rough week.

So, I am going to eat a little, and then relax a little.

And then relax some more ... I want this to be a good weekend

And they wonder ...

Airlines wonder why they are losing money ... simple ... they give crap service.

I'm scrambling to find a fare I can afford to get to NC later this week. My grandmother is dying, probably in the next day or two. My mother is deep in chemo and can't fly with any real degree of safety to her health.

So I'm trying to get to NC so I can drive my mother to WV for the services. Neither of us are going to try to get there before. My grandmother is out and will be till the end, so she wouldnt be aware of us being there. My mother cannot skip chemo this week, more detail on that at a later date.

None of the airlines will give a bereavement fare. Well, one will but only one way. The attitude seems to be that they don't give the fare if the plane is anywhere near full ... dosn't that negate the idea of the bereavement fare ???

I may hit the road tomorrow afternoon.

One of the things that this means ...

My long fight to make it to Congenial seems to be lost. The money to do it appeared last week ... I informed them that it was going to happen, but now there is no chance ... I so needed that weekend ... just for the relaxation if nothing else

And the folks who run the festival in St Louis havent answered my email from last week ... so the next two (and last booked at this time till we find out what the money situation is, it may be months before another road trip) seem to both be in peril ... ok, the St Louis probably isn't, but I am in alarmist mode at the moment.

So how is your day ???

edit

It looks like flying Southwestern out of Omaha is less than any of the special fares I have seen. So that looks like what I am going to do.

it's official

Barring financial problems (which will hopefully not be the case, I should know in the next couple of weeks)

I will be at Congenial.

I've been wanting to go for the last several years, but things just didnt work out. I'm looking forward to a con where I can just hang out, as well as play a whole lot of music late at night.
