Well it's really hard to say but I believe punk was really around in the 60's but the labels civilized a lot of the bands. The Beatles had trashy leather coats but were told to wear suits and cut the edges on there strings by Epstein. The Who definitely where the first punkers if the Beatle's were not because the who smahed their instruments and wore interesting weird clothes.

However there was a contest between the Beatles and the Who for the loudest song and I believe Helter Skelter was the first punk song.

I forgot what the who came up with but now if you don't agree with the Beatles or the Who you've got to admit the Rolling Stones are definitely the first punk band with songs like Satisfaction and Hey You Get Off My Cloud.

Punk would have come sooner but labels perfected Hard Rock and made it into heavy metal but the bands were really trying to sound loud and noisy.

I really think KISS would have been considered punk too if a label hadn't curve their sound.

Because KISS was just trying to do what The New York Dolls and the Ramones were already doing.

But compare the lyrics of KISS to the ramones and ask your yourself which do you think the labels wanted teenagers to listen to.

I bet the label even told KISS what they could or could not write.
