Vampires have more complexity. And often better explanations. And sometime sex apeal. Zombies are a little boring. There is no such thing as a sexy zombie. Then there is "I Am Legend", with vampire zombies.
I have to admit to having a bit of a vampire fetish myself, but as my husband correctly points out, it's only more recent media and literary vampires which are sexy. The classic vampire was an animated dead body inhabited by a demon. The way they're written today, it's almost always the original person with something akin to a viral infection that's killed them physically, perhaps cut them off from their soul and/or redemption ("Dead Witch Walking" series) and made them an obligate sanguivore. :)
The general notion of vampires has inspired a huge variety of different stories with very different creatures called vampires. Within that variety, some of the creatures are people I really enjoy reading about and playing with in my imagination; some of them are just icky and gross.
Zombies are much less rich and varied. They're uniformly icky and gross. I do love some of the comedy about them, but I don't like the basic idea. Is that inconsistent? Well, we couldn't have "Telly Taley Heart" without the Billy Ray Cyrus original either, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to the original.
I agree that Zombies are uniformly icky and gross. Also pretty well always dumb. And I don't generally enjoy dumb; it's why I generally avoid parties where the main goal is to get drunk. It inhibits the intelligent conversation that is, for me, the highlight of a good party.
I have much anxiety about zombies. I snuck out of bed once when I was about 6 and watched "Return of the Living Dead." I had REOCURRING zombie dreams for twenty years. I kid you not. Fuuuuuck zombies.

That actually changed with Stoker ... There was another author as well ... but I can't think of the name at the moment.
