That felt good

I am relearning how to play drums. I've been having problems getting my feet in line, and I have been having problems with my hands. I had two big leaps tonight.

My right foot is moving along and I am able to do something other than 4 to the bar with it.

The problems with my hands seem to be dealt with, it was all in where to hold the sticks. With the right hand I need to grip it right at the logo, about halfway up the stick, rather than further back, which I was doing before. The left hand needs to be a little further back on the stick, I get better control on the snare that way. I still need to sandpaper them down, since my ancient hands have more problems dealing with the slickness of them than my young hands did.

I've been playing a lot of acoustic guitar lately as well, which is doing wonders for my hands there as well.

Musically it's been a good week, the rest ... well ...

Ah, yes. I'm having somewhat fond memories of taking percussion methods class as part of my music ed. program. I always could get everything going, EXCEPT for my right foot. It used to drive me crazy. I also had problems if I started thinking about the fact that all of my limbs were doing something different. I could only play drum set if I didn't really think about it. Then, I'd go, "Hey, I'm doing it." Then, I would immediately screw up. Hope your luck is better than mine.
