Another toy on loan

A friend has lent me a nice Fender bass and a stompbox amp emulator ...

As long as I play the root, it sounds pretty good.

So the demoing goes on .. adding bass to Only Coffee House tonight after work

Fender bass

Okay, Eric -- which Fender bass? (I know of six models, not counting the hybrids -- Precision, Jazz Bass, Telecaster Bass, Coronado, Mustang and Musicmaster. And then there have been several attempts made at combining some of the traits of the Precision and the Jazz.) How is it strung? I note that playing the roots, nicely and solidly, is a great place to start playing bass; once you learn the "job" of holding down the foundation by playing the roots, you can experiment a little. Keep me posted. (By the way, I used the Univox violin bass -- the one whose picture appears on the inside of my CD *Water Over the Bridge* -- for two sets on last Saturday's gig. It worked well enough. I made some comment about how unlikely it was that anybody else would be playing a 60's violin bass that night. Then the band that had been playing a private party in the room downstairs packed up and came outside; their bassist had a Vox violin bass about the same dimensions as mine. We talked and he let me play it a bit. Fun!
