The coolest thing
Well, two cool things.
1 - There is a windmill on the Iowa State Fair grounds now. It's huge. You can stand right at the base and see just how big it is. I have seen the windmill farms from a distance but I didn't really get an idea of how large the windmills themselves actually are. It was very cool
B - We were leaving the Fair and walking to my car, which was way on the far edge of the parking lot> The grandstand concert (which was the American Idol concert, if you are at all interested, I wasn't really) finished and the fireworks started. The launch point was about 50-100 feet away from where we were walking so we were RIGHT under the fireworks. Really, we had to look straight up to see them. We both stopped dead after a moment and were completely transfixed.
I've seen the big displays in Chicago and elsewhere, but nothing as ever been as cool, fireworks-wise, as this was. They had a couple of curtains that showed up throughout the display, and I swear we could have reached out and touched them. It was a perfect end to a wonderful evening.

It's a baby windmill. The windmill farms up north are what it wants to be when it grows up.
But it's still pretty damn cool!
