Does anyone have video or audio of my set at Windy?
ericcoleman: (Default)
I'm bummed, no photos from that horrific invasion of my show last weekend have shown up yet. The world needs to see the evidence!
ericcoleman: (Default)
It has been a great day of music. Got to play drums for both Adam Selzer and Dave Perry. Very different shows, very different attitudes, both an amazing amount of fun. Time to crash out for an hour, then back down to see Beth Kinderman and the Player Characters, The Feng Shui Ninjas and Possible Oscar. Then see if I have enough energy to get to the music circle and play some music with Lizzie!
ericcoleman: (Toyboat)
There were some tech problems (and, surprise of all surprises, opening ceremonies ran late), but we got going ...

Desert Storm
500 Hats
Domino Death
Zombie Momma
Return of the King
Dervish
Flying Car
Hellraiser
PQR
307 Ale
Would You Like To Play A Game?
Rocket Ride

Rocket Ride may have been the biggest rush I have ever had onstage. The audience sang along, yelled along. It was a great show, now I go collapse ...

Tomboat Concert
Friday, 9:00–10:00 pm, Junior Ballroom BC

The Music of FuMP Concert
Sunday, 11:00–1:00 pm, Junior Ballroom C

Other than that, I will be in the music room most of the weekend. I may play drums for a couple of people. I'll certainly have enough drums with me. Enough other instruments as well.

I will be performing with Tomboat (we hope, get better Tom) Friday night, and may be sitting in with some folks at other points with my Bag-O-Rhythm. I will be performing in the Fump concert Sunday as well. The thing is, I haven't performed solo in some time ... any requests? I will do FPN, beyond that I am uncertain.
ericcoleman: (Default)
I suppose I should write about last weekend. I think I mentioned everything I wanted to. If you think there is something else that I should rant about ... let me know.

I'm not sure I can do it justice. )
ericcoleman: (Toyboat)
Tomboat is the inimitable Tom Smith backed up by Toyboat. This particular combination will take Tom Smith songs and turn them up to 11. As well there will be special guest villains Amy The Fiddler on, well, fiddle and Raven Ap Morgan on keyboards. Expect some serious fun!

9pm Friday Windycon ... be there !!!

Just FYI

There was going to be this thing called Tomboat at Windycon next weekend. Toyboat backing up Tom Smith that is. Due to our recording schedule and Tom and our performing schedules and just life getting in the way, this is not going to happen at this time. It may still happen at some future date.

Which means that I am under the most unusual of circumstance at Windy.

I am attending a con. I have nothing to do. Nothing. At all.

I don't know when the last time was that this happened, but I am going to try to keep it that way ... for Windy anyway.

BUT, if you find yourself at Windy, we will have CDs with us, and the Ropers have our CDs. So please support our debilitating social disorders, and buy our music. For that matter, go to themadmusicarchive.com and vote for Would You Like To Play A Game (Emi, what is the link to go sign up and vote?). And take another listen to it on The Fump.

This is going to be an insane month. I have one weekend to relax, then off I go

Oct 3rd - Toyboat rehearsal and then a [livejournal.com profile] s00j concert that night
October 9-11 - Conclave - Toyboat will be playing at 2:30 on Saturday
October 17 - Toyboat rehearsal then an evening of Marxian Fun !!! with [livejournal.com profile] shsilver & [livejournal.com profile] exapno
October 22-25 - OVFF - Toyboat will be playing at noon on Friday, we will also be performing in the Awards Concert and will be having our CD release party at 11 Saturday morning in the Con Suite ... there will be cake, may be ice cream too
November 6-8 - I will be in Nashville offending folks from a message board that I have been posting to for a couple decades now.
November 13-15 - Windycon - Perhaps some cool stuff ... wait for it.

OVFF will be fun. I can't leave here till sometime Thursday afternoon. We're playing Friday at noon. I'm driving to [livejournal.com profile] exapno's house, catching a couple hours of sleep, then heading to Ohio at you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me:30 in the morning.

I'm too old for this ... but if I survive it, it's gonna be fun !!!

Got here at a reasonable time. Ended up giving a ride to the daughter of a friend of a friend ... who I shall also transport back to Iowa City (since that is where I found her). She's certainly pleasant company. Went out to dinner with several reprobates (expected I suppose) and came back and played the Fannish Family Feud ... the engineers vs the filkers ... we won quite handily. Crashed out for a half hour or so and headed down to the open filk. Toyboat played probably a half dozen songs over the course of an hour or so. There were only a couple of folks playing. But a few minutes ago Gundo and I both agreed that we were done, and Jason succumbed to peer pressure and that was it for the night.

If you are at the con, come see us Saturday at 8pm in Ballroom AB. We may even have a special guest ... be afraid.
ericcoleman: (Default)
For the upcoming cons that is. I waited too long to reserve for Archon and I am across the friggin road at the Motel 6 ... I have reservations for OVFF and Windycon as well.

I will be at Tillie's Bean this friday November 3rd at 7:30. I even intend to play some music. Two sets worth. Please come out and support my appalling social disorders. Requests and money will be cheerfully taken.

I will be at Windycon the weekend of the 10th. My schedule at the moment is ...

Friday 5:00 Michigan: Golden Age vs. Silver Age vs. Modern Age: A look at the evolution of the comic field and how the characters, stories and art changes over time. E. Coleman, B. Hull, B. Lyn-Waitsman, B. Roper, J. Wilson

Friday 6:00 Michigan: Starting Your Filk Collection: The filkers gather late at night to sing. In the dealers room there are tables covered with their CDs and tapes. Which of those recordings are right for you? Which ones provide the best introduction to filk? This panel tells you how to find that first filk CD to start your collection. E. Coleman, D. Murphy, E. Neely, L. Ski, J. Coulson (way cool, I'm so glad she'll be at the con)

Saturday 2:00 Grand Foyer South: Eric Coleman Concert

Sunday Noon Orly: The Apocalypse Will Be Blogged: Blogging seems to have supplanted fanzines and letter columns because of its immediacy and accessibility. However, do these very features harm the sense of community that science fiction fandom built up over the decades? E. Coleman, C. Gerrib, J. Hines, N. Rest, L. Zeldes

I'm still uncertain what I am doing at the concert, but expect, at the very least, a lot of stuff that I don't normally do including a lot of serious songs. I'm just in that sort of mood.

More about 2007 coming soon.

Some CDs

I picked up a couple CDs when I was at Windycon. Some quick comments

Tom Smith - Live At Marcon
I am a firm believer, as much as I like Tom's studio stuff, that live is the way to experience him. I now have this and the GaFilk show on my harddrive here at work, and I really think this is the better of the two (but only barely). It's available at tomsmithonline.com, like many on my friend's are not likely to know that already. The best thing I can say about it, it severely hurt the Moose on the drive home. He now regrets not having seen [livejournal.com profile] filkertom in concert. Go buy it now. Buy the GaFilk show too. You got any more of these Tom ???

Nate Bucklin - Water Over The Bridge
I have only had one listen to it, which is certainly enough to know that it's great. Nate's songs amaze me. I will say, and this is hardly a secret really, but his secret weapon is really Louie. For the record I want to say to her ... the production is superb. More on the CD after I get a few more chances to listen to it.
