The first set ran very long, as there was much conversation with the audience.

After the show I headed toward Chicago. I already talked about the hotel I had friday night (I will stay there again if I have a similar weekend).

The trip through WI was fun. I did verify one thing. Exit 52 is the place to be. There are all the basic necessities of life there. Yes indeed, Cheese Curds, Fireworks & Porn. I'm working on a song about it.

The Dells are bizarre ... everything is something ... AND a waterpark.

I had a very pleasant dinner with [livejournal.com profile] controuble at Pita Inn. Then I headed on to Joliet. I was going to stay somewhere in Chicago saturday night, but much whining ensued so I gave in and went to Chez Dork instead.

Had a pleasant place to stay, even if it wasn't as nice as the one the night before. Then Sunday afternoon I went to some sort of ceremony that involved [livejournal.com profile] born_to_me & [livejournal.com profile] gundo. There may be something about it in their LJs ...

It was lovely. A perfect day, kids ran around berserk, adults ran around berserk (and that was just the wedding party). I managed to get through it without tearing up (like I usually do at weddings).

We hung out at the house after, and Toyboat worked out just what songs we intend to learn ... it's gonna be ugly folks.

I had a marvelous weekend. Congratulations to the happy couple. And it was so nice seeing all the folks I saw this weekend.

that having no one show up to a show would be a just a little disconcerting.

Andy and I played for 2 solid hours. If you only like my funny stuff, it would have been a weird time for you since we played a lot of serious songs ... but ... mostly we played songs that gave us a chance to open up and play ... to really play.

I don't consider myself a musician ... Steve Goodman once introduced Jethro Burns with a great explanation. "There are songwriters and bangers ... and there are real musicians". I am definitely a songwriter and a banger ... Last night Andy made me feel like a real musician. We played off each other, usually I control where the songs go, last night one of us took control when it was right, and the other followed.

I'll post a set list later, but I do want to say that Hides was this amazing slow gypsy blues last night ...

It was a completely magical night ...

Oh boy ...

Trophy Wife
The Woman I Want

Bang My Bald Spot

So ... mistakes were made, the key that the guitar was in was not necessarily paid attention to ... I digressed just a LITTLE bit in songs ... it was a blast. So ... seeya there again April 27th?

I just back to my friend's house. It was a good show tonight. Andy did show up and played the both sets. It was a blast. We need to do this more often.

I do have to figure out a way to get more folks to come out to these shows. I'm thinking Press Gangs, anyone else have any ideas?

I played

1st Set
Marilyn Monroe (Dan Bern)
Only Coffee House In Town
In Crosby Park
Ghosts
Don’t Go Home
Almost Beautiful
Hey Dad !!!
Trophy Wife
The Woman I Want

2nd Set
Ready Mades (Bonzo Dog Band/Neil Innes)
Wilderness Of Smiles
Low Self Esteem
Things You Never Know
The One I Chased Away
Color Of Your Eyes
Standards
Bang My Bald Spot
How Can I Miss You?
Hides

Lojo Russo turned me onto the Dan Bern song the last time I saw her play, and since she was playing in Des Moines at about the same time I was playing up here, I decided to open with it. The Ready Mades came out of a conversation just before the 2nd set about The Bonzo Dog Band and Neil Innes. I don't think I have ever played it at a show before, and only maybe once at a song circle. It's one of my favorite Bonzo Dog songs ... I almost did Urban Spaceman too.

The last show with Andy was a little disconnected. Technically we played very well, but this time we really connected the way we want to. My shows are always better when he is there. Someday I have to find a way to thank him properly.

So, the next show (if I can make it there, life being what it is) is Capricon. Although I don't have a slot yet, I figure I will play in the Internet Cafe at some point. Then Marscon (which will be too much fun, I mean really, Power Salad are going to be there) and then back at Tillies March 17th. So put that on your calendar now.

I will be at Tillie's Bean in Minneapolis this friday (the 12th) at 7:30. This is my first show of the new year and the first after the holidays, so come out and throw money at me, I need all the help I can get. (women throwing themselves at me will be appreciated as well)

I need to call and verify, but Andy Anda may show up and do his thing with me, but I do promise at least a couple of songs I don't play much ... and maybe some stuff that no one has heard live.

So please come out and support my appalling social disorders (translated into song). Tell your friends, tell anyone you think might like what I do. If you don't like what I do, tell your enemies, maybe they will like what I do.

Hope to see you friday.

Well ... the day started with me trying to put my clippy sunglasses on ... when I had left my glasses sitting on my desk.

The rest of the day had to be better. I was worried since everyone I know, including the entire WSPA had been sick this week. I could have made for a really interesting show. I made it, I feel fine, and the show went quite well, if, as I expected this close to Christmas, a little underattended.

Standards
Home Again (yeah, I started with two of the hardest guitar pieces I do)
Trophy Wife
The Woman I Want
Hey Dad !!!
Low Self Esteem
Bang My Bald Spot
J's Wild Appalachian Stomp/WYSIWYG

Then Andy set up ... the things got much better

Only Coffee House In Town
Wilderness Of Smiles
Ghosts
Things You Never Know
In Crosby Park
How Can I Miss You?
Perfect Moments/Hides

Hides was interesting last night, way different than Andy and I have ever done it. Rather than the usual kinda of middle eastern feel, it had a real celtic feel to it. I don't know if either of us really liked or disliked it, but it was certainly a cool version.

Going to [livejournal.com profile] freeimprov's party tonight, if I can find it ...

how was your friday night ???

Thank you everyone who came out this evening ... it was a blast. I will post set lists later in the weekend ... but I do want to say a special thank you to Andy Anda for showing up and making the evening so much more fun. My shows are always better when shared with Andy.

Night all ... seeya tomorrow

I will be at Tillie's Bean this friday November 3rd at 7:30. I even intend to play some music. Two sets worth. Please come out and support my appalling social disorders. Requests and money will be cheerfully taken.

I will be at Windycon the weekend of the 10th. My schedule at the moment is ...

Friday 5:00 Michigan: Golden Age vs. Silver Age vs. Modern Age: A look at the evolution of the comic field and how the characters, stories and art changes over time. E. Coleman, B. Hull, B. Lyn-Waitsman, B. Roper, J. Wilson

Friday 6:00 Michigan: Starting Your Filk Collection: The filkers gather late at night to sing. In the dealers room there are tables covered with their CDs and tapes. Which of those recordings are right for you? Which ones provide the best introduction to filk? This panel tells you how to find that first filk CD to start your collection. E. Coleman, D. Murphy, E. Neely, L. Ski, J. Coulson (way cool, I'm so glad she'll be at the con)

Saturday 2:00 Grand Foyer South: Eric Coleman Concert

Sunday Noon Orly: The Apocalypse Will Be Blogged: Blogging seems to have supplanted fanzines and letter columns because of its immediacy and accessibility. However, do these very features harm the sense of community that science fiction fandom built up over the decades? E. Coleman, C. Gerrib, J. Hines, N. Rest, L. Zeldes

I'm still uncertain what I am doing at the concert, but expect, at the very least, a lot of stuff that I don't normally do including a lot of serious songs. I'm just in that sort of mood.

Some shows

The weekend was fun. I played a good show (albeit a trifle underattended, gonna try for a friday next time), got to be on the air on KFAI, finally saw Crosby Park (which I wrote a song about some years ago, sort of) and got to hang out with Wyngarde a little, saw the comic he was working on which was very cool.

I even stuck to my set list ... almost. I cut out two covers in the second set. There was a bunch of stuff that had not been heard in MN before.

1st Set
Only Coffee House In Town
In Crosby Park
Ghosts
Don’t Go Home

Almost Beautiful
Hey Dad !!!
Trophy Wife
The Woman I Want
Pine City Motel Blues

Wilderness Of Smiles
Things You Never Know
The One I Chased Away
Color Of Your Eyes

Had a few lyrical and guitar bobbles here and there, but I think it was a solid show.

More later

Tonight I am going to see the ever so fabulous Lojo Russo at the ever so fabulous Ritual Cafe in Des Moines.

After, I am driving to Minneapolis. If anyone is up, and feels like giving me a call after 10 or 10:30, it would be helpful I am sure.

Saturday I am going to try to head over to where [livejournal.com profile] wyngarde is doing his bit for 24 hour comic day.

At 3:30 I am on the air on KFAI on Shockwave Radio Theater.

At 7:30 I am performing at Tillie's Bean.

See some of you there I hope.

It's gonna be a busy weekend.
ericcoleman: (Default)
Can anyone in the Twin Cities think of places I could send posters, or places they could drop off posters. I'm sending a few to Tillie's, but anything else would certainly be a help.

I can send posters, email a PDF, or other stuff I haven't thought of yet.

email me at ericcoleman at gmail dot com

I am playing Saturday September 23rd at Tillie's Bean in Minneapolis.

There has been much mockery going on over this. (and well deserved too)

I need someone else to book my shows, I really do, I obviously can't be trusted with it.
ericcoleman: (Default)
I am playing Saturday September 2nd at Tillie's Bean in Minneapolis. Two sets. I guess this means I have to practice, especially some songs I don't do very often.

So please, all you folks in the Twin Cities, come out and support my appalling behaviour.
